Awaking Advent: A Day of Quiet

“Therefore stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”  Matthew 25:13

Advent starts abruptly with a message of the LORD’s imminent return, and therefore the call to stay awake. But as the parable cited above shows, becoming fully alive to the reality of Gods in-breaking presence takes preparation.

Enter the Anglican tradition of an Advent “Quiet Day.” We will carve out some much needed space at the front end of this busy season to reflect on Scripture in silence and solitude so that we can hear God who speaks not in the earthquake, fire nor rush of wind but rather a “low whisper” (1 Kings 17).

We will begin at 9 AM on Saturday, December 2nd and conclude with a midday Eucharist at 12 Noon followed by an optional lunch. Four different All Souls parishioners will present a meditation on one of the four Advent gospel lessons, followed by a guided time of individual reflection.
