Close Reads Conference: Place, Faith & The Southern Short Story

All Souls is honored to host our friends at Close Reads for their in-person conference August 4-5!

“To understand the canon of Southern Literature we must consider the intersection of the themes of Faith and Place.

Join the Close Reads crew for two days of contemplation about what it means to be from a particular place, in a particular time, and how one’s faith (or lack thereof) determines the nature of one’s relationship with that place.

We’ll be contemplating a handful of essential short stories from Flannery O’Connor, Eudora Welty, William Faulkner, Doris Betts, Wendell Berry, Caroline Gordon, and Carson McCullers, all of which are both challenging and inspiring at the same time, works which stand up to examination and conversation–to deep, close reading, that is.”
